Radio astronomy centre visit to III EEE
Radio Astronomy Centre, TATA Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Udhagamandalam (Ooty)
The students Third year EEE had the privilege of visiting the Radio Astronomy Centre, TIFR, located at Udhagamandalam (Ooty), on 28.8.2025 as a part of their Industrial Visit programme. The Radio Astronomy Centre, operating under the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, is one of India’s premier scientific institutions dedicated to advancing research in the field of radio astronomy.
During the visit, students were given an insightful orientation about the operations and research activities carried out at the centre. The officials provided detailed explanations about radio waves, signal processing, and how distant cosmic objects are studied using cutting-edge radio telescopes. Students also had the opportunity to witness the functioning of the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT) network and understand its important role in astronomical discoveries.
The visit enhanced the students’ understanding of space science, astronomical data analysis, and the importance of radio telescopes in exploring the universe beyond the visible spectrum. It also helped bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-time scientific applications
