Department of Electrical and Communication, initiates a workshop “IEEE Awareness Program” for Students on 19.01.2018 at Opulent Hall. The session was initiated with an Inauguration ceremony in the presence of the Board of Directors, Chief Guest Prof. A. Darwin Jose Raju and the Head of Departments.

Engineers apply the theories and principles of science and mathematics to research and develop economical solutions to technical problems. Their work is the link between perceived social needs and commercial applications. IEEE plays a major role in an Engineer’s life where IEEE is the world’s largest technical professional organization dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity. IEEE and its members inspire a global community through its highly cited publications, conferences, technology standards, and professional and educational activities. The welcome address was delivered by Ms.Shaji of Third Yr ECE. Prof. Nivya K Suresh AP/ ECE gave the Introduction about the Chief Guest and said that He is one of the Senior Member of IEEE working as an Associate Professor in Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering in St. Xavier’s Catholic College of Engineering. He is one among the active volunteers of IEEE Madras Section. By long listing his achievements the session was handedover to our respected Chief Guest Prof. A.Darwin Jose Raju. In his Keynote address, he highlighted about IEEE Xplore and he also added the significance of IEEE Students Chapter. IEEE Xplore is a research database that indexes, abstracts, and provides full-text for articles and papers on computer science, electrical engineering and electronics. This database mainly covers material from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).He presented a PPT on “How to use The IEEE Xplore digital library?” and “How to access more than 3.5-million full-text documents from some of the world's most highly cited publications in electrical engineering, computer science and electronics?”.

This session was interactive and more useful to the Final Year and the Pre- final year students for their projects. The overall response from students and faculty was very good. He also explained the importance of the IEEE access in an Institution. The event ended with vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Ajitha.C of Final year ECE extending a special gratitude to the Coordinator of this Event, The Head of the Department Dr.Sree Devi and Respected Principal Dr.R.Rajesh for arranging an thought provoking session.
