A warm and affectionate welcome from the Department of Civil Engineering. If you are looking for an exciting and rewarding career in civil engineering, ROHINI College of Engineering and Technology is the correct choice and the right place to be. The department offers courses in the field of Civil Engineering at undergraduate level with an annual intake of 120 students and post graduate level with an annual intake of 24 students. The activities of the department include Civil Engineering consultancy, testing and certification.

The Civil Engineering is a broad field of engineering which involves planning, construction , maintenance and management of structures and public works. Students will learn about Building construction, planning, management and Modern materials, Green buildings, flood control, structural health monitoring, Sea water infiltration, Transportation engineering, Maintenance of the physical naturally built environment and Disaster management. The department seeks expertise from several branches of Civil Engineering i.e. Structures, Soil and Foundation, Hydraulics and Environmental Engineering, Advanced Surveying etc. The department also provides an opportunity for students in improving supervision, communication and presentation skills, knowledge of software like Auto CAD, STAAD PRO, PRIMAVERA etc.,

Civil Engineering is the mother of all Engineering branches , so there is a huge demand of civil engineers in India and their service is much required for the country to upgrade its Infrastructure with growing economic and political cloud in the world . Civil engineers have more offers in Government departments like municipality, corporation, state and central government and defense, public sector undertakings like SAIL, GAIL, NTPC, BHEL, NPCIL, ONGC, RAILWAYS, NHAI, CPWD, PORT and HARBOURS etc., and also various private sector organizations. The core values of the department help the students to develop their overall personality and make them worthy technocrat to compete and work at global level. Our department has been conducting Industrial visits, survey camps, seminar / conferences since its beginning, to keep the faculty and students abreast with the latest developments in the field of technical education.

The purpose of this laboratory is to teach the art of measuring measurements of the relative positions of the natural and man-made features on the earth’s surface and presenting the information either graphically or numerically. The experiments here are designed to demonstrate the applications of the techniques for the collection of required details in all areas of surveying. This laboratory exercise also provides practice in making engineering judgments, estimates and assessing the reliability of measurements, skills which are very important in all engineering disciplines.

The department is well equipped with a Computer laboratory, which helps the students to have hands on training in the software’s related to Civil Engineering. The laboratory is being used by the students in beginning of their Engineering career, i.e. In their 3nd semester where they are introduced with AUTOCAD and during their 7th semester where they equip themselves with the designing software STAAD PRO.

At the end of the course the student acquire experience in preparation of design and structural drawings both for Concrete and Steel structures.

The purpose of this laboratory is to teach the art of determining the various strength of materials (Steel / Copper / Brass / Aluminum) such as compression, Tension, Flexure, Hardness, Impact Strength, Torsion, Young’s modulus. This laboratory exercise also provides practice in making engineering judgments, assessing the reliability of materials, which are very important in all engineering disciplines.

Consultancy activities such as testing of steel rods for construction, Compressive strength of concrete are undertaken in this laboratory.

The purpose of this laboratory is to reinforce and enhance the understanding of the students regarding the fundamentals of Fluid mechanics and Hydraulic machines. The experiments here are designed to demonstrate the applications of the basic fluid mechanics principles and to provide a more intuitive and physical understanding of the theory. The main objective is to introduce a variety of classical experimental and diagnostic techniques, and the principles behind these techniques. This laboratory exercise also provides practice in making engineering judgments, estimates and assessing the reliability of your measurements, skills which are very important in all engineering disciplines.

In order to exercise constant vigil and control over the quality of the work executed certain tests are to be conducted as per the Bureau of Indian Standards on all building, infrastructure facilities and construction materials at various stages of the project. To give an exposure for the students in the above fields concrete and Highway and Engineering laboratory was established in the academic year 2013 – 2014. The laboratory has facilities to conduct test on soil, cement, fine and coarse aggregate, fresh and hardened concrete, Bitumen and Bituminous mixes. Separate curing tank and storage tank facilities for materials are available. All the equipments are as per Bureau of Indian Standards. By doing experiments in this laboratory the student can understand the need and significance of various tests. Consultancy activity such as Preparation of Mix design for construction is carried out in this laboratory.

The civil engineering department is equipped with a well established soil mechanics laboratory. The students are a given a good opportunity to learn various aspects of testing soils and studying their properties like grain size distribution, drainage, compressibility, shear strength and bearing capacity. The civil engineering department is also actively involved in undertaking consultancy projects regarding Soil Investigation for various firms.

The primary objective of this lab is to demonstrate environmental engineering testing procedures. This lab is continuously upgraded with the latest environmental equipment. It covers the four major pollution areas: air, soil and water contamination. Students contribute through water testing procedures to build a pollution database of the nearby rivers. The purpose of this laboratory is to teach the students the testing of various drinking water and waste water quality parameters such as presence of Chlorides, Sulphates, pH BOD, COD, and Turbidity. Research in the Environmental group includes, but is not limited to, solid waste management, biological nutrient removal, drinking water treatment, membranes and membrane bioreactors, nutrient recovery, contaminated sites, endocrine disrupting compounds, corrosion, composting, dairy waste treatment, and aquifer contamination.

The construction engineering and management program at RCET combines a balance of the latest developments in construction technologies and management principles with other disciplines that are required to understand and solve the broad range of challenges confronting the construction industry. The objective of this program is to prepare students to effectively and successfully work in the construction industry as well as to conduct research in the construction engineering and management discipline. The Construction Engineering and Management Laboratory is the center for graduate students to conduct research projects. The Laboratory is equipped with Primavera software with latest version. It helps the students to gain knowledge in various fields such as on-site construction productivity improvement, international construction management, project planning and scheduling.
